Meygaarden Natural Health is a natural health and wellness clinic run by homeopathic practitioner Dr. Erica van Meygaarden.

A homeopath is a medically trained practitioner who has similar training to a medical doctor but, with more focus on disease progression and less on acute symptoms. In other words, seeing the bigger picture when dealing with a symptom and trying to treat the whole individual. In South Africa, a homeopath has completed a 6 year Masters degree in Homeopathy from the University of Johannesburg or Durban, and is registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of SA.

Natural and homeopathic medicine can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine under the supervision of a homeopathic practitioner. In fact, the lifestyle and nutrition advice can complement traditional prescribing and can be beneficial.

 Dr Erica van Meygaarden is a registered homeopathic practitioner and has been practicing for 14 years:

 I use an integrated approach when diagnosing chronic diseases. So much of what we experience in our lives affect our health, and illness is usually a combination of numerous different issues causing physical symptoms. I go through every system in the body using non-invasive methods and work out where things are going wrong and how it is affecting the rest of the body. I aim to reverse or prevent illnesses and recognize what is affecting us now.

In order to gain the full picture, I combine my knowledge of Classical homeopathy, herbalism, nutrition/diet, acupuncture, bio-therapeutics and functional medicine (including genomics) when dealing with a patient. I am scientifically-minded and may request blood tests or medical diagnostic tests like X-rays if necessary"

What to expect at the first consultation

You will be sent a welcome pack which includes a questionnaire and clinic details. Any previous medical tests should be brought with to the consultation.

The first consultation takes about an hour and a half. This is to gain an understanding of the underlying causes of ill health and the priority of treatment. The consultation includes a detailed questioning process, clinical examination, a live blood analysis, an iridology diagnosis and digital photo of the iris, nutritional analysis and a bio-resonance assessment.

Medication and Dispensary

The clinic runs a full homeopathic dispensary where homeopathic remedies are processed and dispensed as drops or pillules. The clinic also stocks high quality herbal tinctures/extracts and practitioner-only products from integrative medicine companies.

Will the medical aid pay?

Homeopathy is recognised by the South African Department of Health as a complementary system of medicine. It is also recognised as a therapeutic option by all South African medical aids.

However, this practice is contracted out and does not claim directly from medical aids. If you send your statement to your medical aid, they will reimburse you.
