Hormone Imbalances

The dance of the hormones and their interaction with our bodies control our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. The endocrine web is an intricate balance of hormones which are produced in picogram amounts:

·         Estrogen

·         Progesterone

·         Testosterone

·         Insulin

·         Cortisol

·         DHEA

·         Thyroid hormone

·         Adrenaline

Hormone changes control our monthly menstrual cycle and have a normal fluctuation to allow this cycle to occur, as well as for pregnancy to take place. How do we know that this balance is still in place, and what are the signs and symptoms that indicate a hormone imbalance?

The first symptoms are loosely called premenstrual syndrome, where the typical drop in estrogen and rise in progesterone does not occur after ovulation , and estrogen stays high in the blood for various reasons. This is called OESTROGEN DOMINANCE and is the main cause of nearly all female diseases including Hot flushes, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, Polycystic ovaries and more.

My focus is  to help modulate estrogen to allow better balance with progesterone and testosterone.

Excessive estrogen in the body comes from:

1. Poor liver function where ‘bad’ forms of estrogen are not removed. There can be certain genetic deficiencies where specific nutrients cannot be metabolised to detoxify estrogen in the liver.

2. Chronic Stress and overproduction of cortisol and adrenaline

3. Hypothyroidism

4 .Poor nutrient intake to prevent hormone precursors from changing into estrogen

5. High adipose tissue or obesity: fat tissue can release estrogen

6. Long term Exposure to xenoestrogens from plastic and chemicals in the environment.

7. Insulin resistance and glucose intolerance due to high sugar intake or not keeping to a low GI diet.

From the above one can see that improving your general state of health can improve or even reverse most hormone related syndromes, reduce painful menstruation, clear ovarian cysts and improve the health of our ovaries and uterus for better fertility and health.
